Kathmandu (. . . ): The South Asia Grassroots Assembly commenced on Thursday in Kathmandu, Nepal, bringing together delegates from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries under the theme “Be Seen, Be Heard, and Lead Change.”
The two-day regional event serves as a platform for grassroots leaders, community representatives, civil society organizations, and development practitioners to exchange experiences, share success stories, and explore innovative solutions for sustainable development and social transformation.
The Assembly was formally inaugurated by the Regional Convener of the Freshwater Action Network South Asia (FANSA), who highlighted the significance of community-led initiatives, inclusive participation, and regional cooperation in addressing key development challenges facing the region.
Delegations from all South Asian countries are participating in the gathering, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening grassroots voices and advancing people-centered development. Representatives from several Southeast Asian nations are also attending, contributing valuable perspectives through cross-regional learning and collaboration.
Pakistan is being represented by the FANSA Regional Co-Convener along with a two-member delegation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The Pakistani delegation is expected to share experiences and best practices from community-led initiatives in water and sanitation, local governance, and sustainable development.
During the two-day Assembly, participants will engage in dialogue sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, and collaborative discussions aimed at strengthening grassroots leadership and promoting inclusive and sustainable development across South Asia and beyond.
The event underscores the growing importance of empowering local communities and ensuring that grassroots voices play a central role in shaping development policies and solutions.
